How do you choose which team to "support" in a televised game when you have no allegiance?
i look for a tenuous West Ham link.

Go for the underdog, unless its a northern team.

I try not to support any teams wearing red, or blue.

Depends, location is often a factor for me, West ham link and manager as well.

Not that im really supporting them but even watching as a neutral you do start to favour one side over the other.

There's usually at least 1 player I dislike on the pitch so I always wish him ill.

My son has it right.
After swimming today the chelsea v hull game was on in the changing room.

He said "come on the blue team". I replied that's chelsea son. Immediately he said "Oh, come on the orange team"

He's 4

The underdog or player association

I have a strict league table of hatred that I adhere to unless the result would have a major bearing on us.

For example, I'd want Arsenal to beat Stoke.

Same as peroni,
Most games I have a deeper hatred for one team over the other.
If not, putting money on it always makes it watchable.

Re: How do you choose which team to "support" in a televised game when you have no allegiance?
I have a hierarchy of hatred so if Liverpool are playing Spurs I want Liverpool to win and if they are playing Manure I want Liverpool to lose. Anybody else playing any of these three I will want to win.

In fact if HMP put out a team of paedophiles I would be wanting them to beat spurs, and would also be supporting an ISIS eleven rather than spurs.

I would like to see Hull relegated as I hate the Manager.

If the outcome will benefit West Ham in some way then I will take sides. These days I don't watch many other games as it is not entertaining enough when you do not have an interest in the result.

Where the big teams are involved I couldn't give a shit and like to see them kick each other up in the air like today's Lpool Man U

I've always gone for the team kicking right to left on screen. No idea why

I wouldn't want to support either Barcelona or Real Madrid after witnessing the disgraceful behaviour of a fair number of their players last night. Overpaid creeps the lot of them.

Re: How do you choose which team to "support" in a televised game when you have no allegiance?
Just detest Liverpool and want them to lose every game but I don't think I've ever sat down and picked sides.

I recorded the match on Saturday and went home afterward and though I'd skip the boring bits, unfortunately this meant large section were watched at x12 or even x30 so I watched the entire match in about 11 minutes. It really was as fucking awful as watching it live. What a pile of fucking shit that game was

Re: How do you choose which team to "support" in a televised game when you have no allegiance?
It's a complicated trade-off of various factors.

If a Tottenham win meant we would go up a place in the table, I'd want a Tottenham win.

If a Tottenham win meant we would have a 20% chance of finishing higher, I'd want them to lose.

If a Tottenham win meant we would have a 50% chance of finishing higher, but they would also get something other than just the the three points (like European qualification) I'd want them to lose.

If a Tottenham win meant we would have a 50% chance of finishing higher, but they would get European qualification, but I didn't think they had the squad to cope, I'd want them to win.

Possibly, I'm overthinking this...

Wouldn't use the term support as I never support anyone other than West Ham.

I do enjoy watching the underdog get a win though (Chelsea v Bradford springs to mind).
